Savannah VG Classic

Wilco Aviation is delighted to exclusively offer this original Savannah VG Classic, G-CBBM, a particularly well-known example of one of the most capable and highly regarded STOL microlights flying today. G-CBBM is available for viewing at our facility at Henstridge Airfield, Somerset. It operates on a BMAA Permit to Fly and offers genuinely affordable microlight flying with the added benefit of true short take-off and landing capability. The Savannah has built an excellent reputation among UK microlight pilots for its outstanding short-field performance, forgiving handling and practical, rugged design. It's a two-seat, high-wing aircraft of all-metal construction, with a comfortable side-by-side cockpit and the excellent outward visibility you'd expect from a high-wing STOL design. It's a capable, confidence-inspiring machine that's as much fun on a short local hop as it is exploring farm strips and smaller airfields. G-CBBM was originally built in 2002 as a Savannah Classic and has since been upgraded to the later VG specification. The VG version features vortex generators on the wing's leading edge and a slightly revised wing profile. The result is a noticeably faster cruise with very little sacrifice in low-speed performance, and the stall speed remains at approximately 31 mph (27 knots). For the owner, this means the best of both worlds: the short-field ability the Savannah is famous for, combined with more useful cruise performance for getting from A to B. Power comes from the air-cooled, flat-four 80 hp Jabiru 2200. It's a simple, lightweight and economical engine that suits the Savannah's purposeful character well. In normal operation, G-CBBM cruises comfortably at around 65–70 knots (75–80 mph). That makes it an enjoyable and inexpensive aircraft for local flying, short trips and visiting friends at grass strips around the region. G-CBBM has also benefited from recent maintenance work: The carburettor has been overhauled by Ecclestone Aviation. The nose wheel shock cord has been replaced. The flywheel bolts and Nordlock washers have been replaced in line with the Jabiru maintenance manual. That's reassuring for any prospective owner, and it shows that the aircraft has been looked after properly. The Savannah is at its best operating from short, unprepared or grass strips. Its low stall speed, steep approach capability and short ground roll give the pilot real flexibility in where they can fly. That's always subject, of course, to aircraft weight, surface and prevailing conditions. For pilots holding a microlight licence, or those looking for a step away from conventional three-axis trainers into something with real character and capability, the Savannah VG offers a rewarding flying experience at very sensible running costs. Its combination of STOL performance, robust all-metal construction and economical Jabiru power has made it a lasting favourite among private owners throughout the UK and Europe. G-CBBM operates in the UK on a BMAA Permit to Fly. That makes it particularly attractive to the private owner looking for a capable and economical aircraft supported within the well-established British Microlight Aircraft Association system. Whether you're looking for an affordable weekend aircraft, a capable farm-strip machine or simply something enjoyable and inexpensive to fly, G-CBBM ticks a great many boxes. Its pedigree, its upgrade to VG configuration, its recent maintenance and its reputation as a well-known example of the type make this Savannah worthy of serious consideration. For anyone currently searching for a Savannah VG for sale in the UK, a STOL microlight, or an affordable two-seat BMAA Permit aircraft with genuine short-field capability, G-CBBM represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a well-known and highly capable example.
